What is Root Canal Treatment?
Root canal treatment is carried out when the nerve and blood supply in the tooth become damaged, by decay, cracks, or trauma. Left without treatment the tooth can become infected and this can lead to the formation of an abscess.
Root canal treatment involves carefully cleaning the inside of the tooth and then filling the root canals with an inert filling material to prevent it from getting reinfected.
As the root canal system in the tooth is complex it can be a time consuming process to properly carry out your root canal treatment and appointments commonly take up to 90 minutes. With the use of modern anaesthetics the procedure should be totally painless and we will do our utmost to ensure you are comfortable.
Once your treatment has been completed you will be referred back to your own dentist and the tooth may require a crown placing on it to stop it from fracturing in the future.
